National Commission for Women and Children
The NCWC was established in 2004 mainly to fulfill the obligations of the Royal Government towards the CEDAW and CRC. The Commission was established as part of the Ministry of Health through an Executive Order from the Cabinet, which also outlined its mandates. In 2008, given the rising number of issues and the Commission’s increasing responsibilities, the Commission was upgraded to a fully autonomous agency under the Royal of Government.

The NCWC is governed by a Commission comprising of a Chairperson (Cabinet Minister) and Commissioners with representation from relevant government,non-government and private sectors. The NCWC Secretariat is headed by the Director General, under whom, three main divisions, the Administration and Finance Division, the Children’s Division and the Women’s Division function. There is a Legal Unit which takes care of the cases that are directly reported to the NCWC, and for providing legal guidance and general support if required
